Research editing technologies
Research deserves a
good meticulous edit.
Edmacro pairs veteran academic editors with editing technology — 61 proofing macros, API-verified references, automated style enforcement — and returns research — manuscripts and code alike — clean, consistent, and fully the author’s own. We edit; we never write.
Across all three cohorts, the intervention produced a very unique consistent reduction in error rates (p < .001). We utilise use the corrected dataset throughout, and report effect sizes alongside 95% confidence intervals.
§ 01 — Services
Seven ways we sharpen
the research record.
Reference & citation cleanup
Every entry rebuilt to the target style, DOIs verified against Crossref, orphans and duplicates flagged — with a change log you can trust.
Human copyediting
Line-by-line editing by editors who know the field — grammar, clarity, and journal style, delivered as tracked changes with an author query memo.
Training & workshops
Live cohorts for editorial teams and labs: our macro library, our checklists, and the judgment to know when not to trust either.
Custom macro development
Your house style, compiled — routines and add-ins built to spec in VBA, Office JS, or Apps Script, documented and maintained.
Workflow automation
Pipelines and API integrations — Crossref, PubMed, ORCID — that move manuscripts through mechanical checks without hand-carrying.
LaTeX & technical formatting
Math- and code-heavy manuscripts handled natively: BibTeX hygiene, class-file compliance, equations and listings set right.
Software & code editing
Docstrings, comments, READMEs, API references, and notebook narrative edited for clarity and consistency — the code held to the same standard as the prose.
What we never do.
No drafting, no ghostwriting, no generated content, no data. Edmacro edits what you wrote — every change tracked, and yours to reject.
§ 02 — The macro library
Macros do the drudgery. Editors do the judgment.
Sixty-one purpose-built routines for Word and Google Docs sweep the mechanical errors first — so human attention goes where it’s actually needed.

Common questions
Plain answers.
Is Edmacro a writing service?
No. Edmacro is an editing service — language, mechanics, formatting, references, and code documentation. We never draft content, generate text, or add data; every change returns tracked, for the author to accept or reject.
What is a research editing macro?
A small program that applies a style rule to a manuscript automatically — normalizing references, sweeping punctuation, verifying callouts — so human editors spend their attention on judgment calls.
Does Edmacro edit software and code?
Yes. We edit programs and their documentation — docstrings, comments, READMEs, API references, and notebooks — for clarity and consistency. We don’t change what the code does; we make it legible.
How fast is the standard turnaround?
48 hours for reference cleanup and most macro-assisted work; 72 hours where a full human copyedit or code-documentation pass is involved. Rush lanes exist — ask.
The Margin — monthly
Notes from the editing desk.
One letter a month on editing craft, macro releases, and style-guide changes. No filler; we edit it harder than anything else we ship.
^ You’re on the list. The next issue of The Margin lands the first Tuesday of the month.
The list isn’t wired to this site yet — send us a line and we’ll add you by hand.
